Finding a cannabis-friendly hotel in Bangkok is harder than it was two years ago, but it is far from impossible. After Thailand decriminalized cannabis in 2022, the city filled with dispensaries and 420-friendly stays. In June 2025 the rules tightened again: cannabis flower became a controlled herb and a prescription is now required to buy it. Hotels reacted the same way the rest of the industry did, with clearer policies and designated smoking areas instead of an open-door approach.
The short version: a handful of Bangkok properties genuinely welcome cannabis users, most standard hotels quietly ban smoking of any kind in rooms, and the difference between the two is a question you should ask before you pay, not after you arrive.
What Are Cannabis-Friendly Hotels?
A 420-friendly hotel is a property that openly allows guests to consume cannabis somewhere on site. In practice that almost never means smoking in your bedroom. It usually means one of three setups: a private balcony, a rooftop or garden smoking lounge, or a designated outdoor area shared by guests.
The better properties are built around this. They have communal lounges where guests meet, staff who can explain the current rules, and they are used to travellers arriving with questions. That community feeling is the main reason people book them over a regular hotel with a quiet balcony.
Note the limits, though. Nearly every cannabis-friendly hotel in Bangkok still fines guests who smoke indoors, because smoke sets off fire alarms and disturbs other rooms. Fines of 5,000 THB for smoking in a bedroom are common, even at the most relaxed properties.
The Legal Side of Staying in Weed-Friendly Hotels
Since 26 June 2025, cannabis flower in Thailand is a controlled herb. Licensed shops may only sell it to customers who hold a prescription issued by a practitioner licensed in Thailand. A foreigner can still buy cannabis in Bangkok, but the prescription is not optional, and a medical card from another country is not accepted. If you are arriving soon, you can arrange a Thai cannabis prescription before your trip.
Buying, holding or using cannabis without that documentation carries real penalties, reported at fines of up to 20,000 THB and up to a year in prison. For the full picture of what changed, see our guide to Thailand cannabis laws in 2026.
Hotel policy and Thai law are two separate things, and you need both on your side. A hotel cannot make public smoking legal, and the law does not force a hotel to allow cannabis on its property. With your prescription sorted and a property that permits consumption in a designated area, you are on solid ground.
Top Cannabis-Friendly Hotels in Bangkok
These properties are known in the cannabis community for allowing consumption on site. Policies change often, so treat this as a starting point and confirm directly with the property before you book.
| Property | Area | Where you can smoke | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rent V38 | Chatuchak, near MRT Ratchada and BTS Ratchayothin | Your own balcony, outdoor areas and rooftop garden | Bangkok’s first 420-friendly poshtel, open since 2022. Smoking inside the bedroom is fined 5,000 THB. About 15 minutes from Don Mueang airport. |
| Bangkok 2510 / 2476 | Khlong Toei, central | Rooftop lounge and, in some rooms, a private balcony | Boutique rooms above an 80s-themed barcade, with regular events. No smoking in rooms; a 5,000 THB charge applies. |
| Live Local Cafe & Hotel | Old City, near MRT Hua Lamphong | Designated areas, select rooms with balconies | Budget-friendly, with a cafe downstairs. Ask which room types are 420-friendly when booking. |
Beyond these, plenty of private Airbnb and guesthouse listings in Bangkok describe themselves as 420-friendly. They are often more flexible than hotels, but the policy is only as reliable as the host’s message, so get it in writing in the chat before you pay.
Amenities & Special Features
What separates a genuinely cannabis-friendly property from one that simply tolerates it:
- A rooftop or garden lounge open late, not a corner of the car park
- Balcony consumption allowed in writing, with the indoor rules stated clearly
- Communal areas where guests actually meet
- Staff who can answer questions about the current rules without guessing
- A dispensary nearby or on site, so you are not carrying products across the city
Tips for Booking the Right Hotel
Booking takes more research than it used to. Message the property before you reserve and ask three specific questions: where exactly can guests consume, what is the fine for smoking in the room, and do they require a prescription to be shown. Vague answers are an answer in themselves.
Book early. The number of genuinely cannabis-friendly places in Bangkok is small and the good ones fill up, especially over weekends and holidays.
Watch the wording. “420-friendly” in a listing can mean anything from a dedicated rooftop lounge to a host who will not complain if you are discreet. Ask which one it is.
And remember what the policy does not cover: public smoking is not permitted anywhere in Thailand, including the street outside your hotel, hotel lobbies and BTS or MRT stations. Our guide on where you can smoke cannabis in Bangkok covers the details.

Cannabis-Friendly Hotels FAQ
Can I smoke cannabis in my Bangkok hotel room?
Almost never. Even cannabis-friendly hotels in Bangkok ban smoking in bedrooms because of fire alarms, and fines around 5,000 THB are standard. Use the balcony, rooftop or designated area instead.
Do cannabis-friendly hotels ask for a prescription?
Hotels do not sell cannabis, so most do not ask. The prescription matters when you buy: since June 2025, licensed shops in Thailand can only sell cannabis flower to customers who hold one.
Can I get cannabis delivered to my hotel in Bangkok?
Yes. We deliver to hotels across Bangkok the same day, daily from 10 AM to midnight. Orders are handed over in the lobby or at reception in sealed, discreet packaging.
What should I ask a hotel before booking?
Ask where guests may consume cannabis, what the fine is for smoking in the room, and whether the policy covers the balcony. Get the answer in writing before you pay.
